Champagne

None of the wines produced in the other French wine-regions can be compared to the “Champagne area”. A vast proportion of the grapes grown are traditionally used in the production of these world-famous sparkling wines, but only the wines produced from the grapes off this specific geographically defined area are allowed to call themselves : Champagne.

Three main growing-areas are legally authorised :

  • - Montagne de Reims
  • - Côte de Blancs
  • - Vallée de la Marne

Each and every “Maison” that produces a great Champagne has it’s personal recipe for success. Every year, finding the right balance between the traditional taste of the domaine-wines and the properties of the current harvest is a new challenge for these highly qualified wine-makers. The most prestigious ones such as Bollinger (THE James-Bond Champagne), Roederer, Ruinart or Veuve Cliquot are “guaranteed values” while others may well come up with “’the surprise of the year”.

The famous words of Veuve Cliquot (Widow Cliquot) really do sum up the feel of tasting Champagne : I drink it whether I am happy or sad, I drink it with friends or alone…
